True Utility 12 Compact Midilite LED Torch
This blisteringly bright, incredibly compact flashlight uses clever chip technology to step up the voltage so that it can be powered by just one AA battery! The tiny torch sports an astonishing 12 LED lights, delivering over 30 hours of non-stop illumination from just one AA battery. Each LED has a massive bulb brightness of 22000 mcd/5 lumens. An LED light will achieve full brightness in approximately 0.01 seconds, 10 times faster than an incandescent light bulb (0.1 second). This compact torch is named TrueLite, due to the ultra high definition white rays emitting wavelength specific colour, making it extremely energy efficient. It shines up to 15 x longer than a standard filament bulb torch, making it an effective money saver. LED lighting is staking its strong claim to take over from conventional lighting for the future, boasting increased life expectancy, greater overall brightness, light output consistency and color uniformity. The smart, ergonomic design enables owners to unleash the power with one-handed control and prevents accidental activation in transport. You will be amazed at the small size and big performance of this torch. It is a must have for keeping close at hand or around the home. Warning - Do not shine in eyes.

Private Eric Hennie, a member from the Provincial Reconstruction Team Patrol Company, at Camp Nathan Smith, Afghanistan, walks by a young smiling Afghan girl as he participates in a Presence Patrol in a rural area of Kandahar City.
The Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) is composed of about 250 soldiers mainly from Land Force Western Area (LFWA) and 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (1 CMBG), located in Edmonton Alberta. The PRT brings together Canadian military personnel, civilian police, diplomats and aid workers in an integrated effort to reinforce the authority of the Afghan government in and around Kandahar, and to help stabilize the region. To achieve these goals, the PRT conducts security patrols, contributes labour and resources to local reconstruction efforts, supports local governance institutions, and facilitates reforms in the security sector.
All Canadian Forces assets in Kabul were relocated and consolidated in Kandahar, except for approximately 85 personnel who will continue to serve with various Kabul-based military and civilian organisations. The relocation of Canadian Forces personnel and equipment
to Kandahar was completed a few days after Camp Julien officially closed on November 29, 2005.
Task Force Afghanistan now comprises about 900 Canadian Forces members. Approximately 700 soldiers are serving in Afghanistan, including troops in Kabul and in Kandahar and about 200 additional CF members are deployed somewhere else in South West Asia to support Canadian operations in Afghanistan. The aim of this reorganization is to increase the effectiveness and impact of CF assets in the region. The Canadian Forces contribution in Kandahar will grow to about 2,000 strong by February 2006.

Under the stars
At Red Bluff
I have literally thousands of photos from this trip. If any one wants more of a particular vehicle, let me know.
This is day 1, trip along the Border Track - Dog Fence.
This must be one of the best sand tracks to be found in Victoria/South Australia. It follows the border from near Pinnaroo right down to near the Melbourne - Adelaide hwy.
This track has very large sand hills to get over. Most of these hills have tracks to get around them if you are not able to get over them. Some of these hills are so extreme there's no way anyone will get over them, so this track can very easily be classed as a 'Difficult' track.
Very Important. Check with the SA National Parks and Reserves for information on when the track is closed, and what direction you need to go in.
The track is about 107km. Allow a full day to make this trip. For a more enjoyable weekend, take your time and camp anywhere along the track. Stop in or camp at Red Bluff - scenic red sandstone hill.
(This is where we stopped). Dress warm though as it gets hot in the day, freezing at night.
Make sure you pack all your recovery gear, and travel in a group with other 4wd's. (We had to recover 2 vehicles).
Check the depths of the mud holes. Some for us were over 1 meter deep. Watch out for the holes towards the end, they are really deep!
Momentum is your friend on the sand dunes. We used 15psi tyre pressures. (Try the sand dunes 3x, if you fail, take the chicken path)
We ended up getting lost around the supposed turnoff to red bluff, that according to the maps was "well signposted".
We ended up with broken eggs and bottles.
This is mostly a sandy track with dunes and provides you with a remote location for testing self and equipment
without travelling deeper into the outback.
The environment is typical Victorian desert – Mallee country. Expect some scratching from Mallee scrub particularly in the Wyperfeld section and some parts of the Northern Border Track may be overgrown. Soft sand is to be found on the tracks as well as corrugations and hard gravel.
The border track is steeped in history largely due to the dispute which arose from the original survey completed between 1847 and 1850. The result is that the border is actually sighted some 3kms too far West. A fascinating account of this can be obtained from John Deckert at Westprint Heritage Maps if you manage to visit whilst in Nhill.
There is an abundance of wildlife to enjoy whilst undertaking this trip, so watch out for Emu and Kangaroo. Aboriginal rock holes can be found close to the junction with South Bore Track.
We were lucky to reach the top speed of 40 kms/hr.
